Suspects in 2016 Brussels airport attacks sentenced

The Special Court of Assizes in Brussels has sentenced eight suspects in the 2016 terror attacks on the Belgian capital that left 32 people dead.

Salah Abdeslam, accused of co-authoring the attacks, received 20 years in prison. He was previously sentenced to 20 years for shooting police officers in 2016 and is serving a life sentence in France for his role in the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.

Mohamed Abrini, known as ‘the man in the hat’ who accompanied the jihadists who died in suicide bombings on Brussels airport, received 30 years.

Six other defendants found guilty in July of charges including murder in a terrorist context and participation in terrorism, were handed sentences ranging from 10 years to life.
