Protesters gather in Washington DC in front of the office of AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee), a pro-Israel lobby group, accusing it of supporting Tel Aviv’s “genocide” in Gaza and influencing American Congress.
Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a video address to AIPAC on Tuesday where he said that “he will finish the job in Rafah while enabling the civilian population to get out”.
A coalition of two dozen organisations, including the Sunrise Movement, Jewish Voice of Peace, IfNotNow, Hollywood Democrats and the Democratic Socialists of America, launched the “Reject AIPAC” initiative this week.
According to the bloc, AIPAC is currently lobbying members of Congress to fund a new military package to Israel.
Frequently described as “pro-war” and “anti-Palestine”, the American lobby group has recently been accused of financing several Democratic campaigns to unseat pro-peace progressive members of Congress.
