Giant dust devil whips up a storm in China

A nearly two-metre-wide, 30-metre-high whirlwind was caught on camera in the city of Shuozhou, in the Shanxi province of China.

Li Rui, Shuozhou Meteorological Observatory Director, explained the phenomenon was a dust devil, spawned by severe ground heating which causes intense upward movements of heated air.

Lasting for two minutes, the small whirlwind eventually dissipated into the air, leaving no injuries or damages in its wake.
