Iranian state media reported on Monday that Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were killed in a helicopter crash.
The semi-official Tasnim news said Raisi and several others onboard were “martyred” following an “accident” in Iran’s northern East Azerbaijan province.
State media said the helicopter was forced to make a ‘hard landing’ in the mountainous region after getting into difficulties in heavy fog on Sunday.
