KING OF GREAT BRITAIN
This mini series; Although King James is depicted as having a self-indulgen side and a hedonistic philosophy of life, King James is actually an important ruler who achieved many major firsts in history. King James (VI of Scotland, I of England) (VI of Scotland, I of England) (1566-1625), He ascended to the throne of Scotland after the abdication of Queen Mary Stuart in 1567, and to the throne of England after the death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603. He was the first monarch of the Stuart dynasty in England. James, who called himself “King of Great Britain” until 1625, was a strong advocate of royal absolutism. Famous for his intellectual abilities, ostentatious generosity and passion for hunting, James was well educated until the age of 14. He studied Greek, French, and Latin, and made good use of a library of classical and religious writings assembled by his teachers George Buchanan and Peter Young. The early years of his reign as king of Great Britain were a period of material prosperity for both England and Scotland. First of all, he took important political steps, such as establishing peace by quickly ending England’s war with Spain in 1604. Guy Fawkes’ famous gunpowder plot, that is, the attempt to blow up the British Parliament Building on November 5, 1605, took place during the reign of King James I. He also made history with the Bible translation he had commissioned by the committee he convened. The “King James Version Bible”, named after King James I of England, published in May 1611, was used as the official translation of the church and was accepted as the common Bible of English-speaking peoples since the 17th century. He is also known in history as the “Witch Hunter King” due to his interest in witchcraft and witch hunting. Believing in the supernatural and malevolent nature of witchcraft, King James himself wrote a philosophical treatise on the historical relations of witchcraft, ancient black magic, and witchcraft called Daemonologie, which supported the practice of witch hunting. This work later inspired Shakespeare’s Macbeth. At court he and his queen Anne celebrated their love of theater and spectacle through the patronage of playwrights and designers such as William Shakespeare and Inigo Jones. James died in 1625 and was succeeded by his son, who reigned as Charles I.
