Israel's impending ground assault, relentless air strikes and official evacuation orders are prompting many Palestinians in Gaza to fear another Nakba, or "catastrophe," following the Nakba of 1948, when thousands of Palestinians were ethnically cleansed and violently displaced from their land. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned that if Israel forces Palestinians out of Gaza, it will be tantamount to a "second Nakba".
