Business and Trade Summit Held at Turkish House in New York

ASKON USA, organized a business and trade summit aimed at contributing to the development of Turkish-American trade relations.

The 2nd edition of the event at the Turkish House was attended by Deputy Minister of Trade Mustafa Tuzcu, Turkiye’s Consul General in New York Reyhan Özgür, ASKON Chairman Orhan Aydın, ASKON USA President Ayhan Özmekik, Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh, and Turkish and American business people.

In his speech at the event, Tuzcu emphasized the importance of Turkiye’s efforts in production, export, and employment, equating it to the significance of the struggle for independence and future prosperity. Highlighting the critical role of Turkish business people in contributing to the country’s economic success and their place in global trade, Tuzcu stated, “We, as a state, are eager to support our businessmen who market Turkish goods and services worldwide.”

Tuzcu also mentioned that one of the primary goals for the Republic’s second century is to elevate Turkiye among the top 10 economies of the world, which he believes will be achieved with the support of business people.

Turkiye’s Consul General in New York, Özgür, underscored the significance of ASKON’s efforts towards achieving the $100 billion trade volume goal set by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with the USA. He expressed his satisfaction with the rapid establishment and the active start of ASKON USA within just two years.

“EXCITED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF TURKIYE’S EXPORTS”

ASKON Chairman Aydın recalled that at the first U.S. business and trade summit last year, they decided to increase Turkiye’s exports. Despite economic contractions even in developed countries during the pandemic, Aydın pointed out that the Turkish economy achieved remarkable growth. Since last year’s meeting, Turkiye’s exports to the USA have increased in many sectors, he noted. ASKON USA President Özmekik expressed their excitement to help young people and women start businesses, actively participate in commercial life, lead in placing more Turkish products in one of the world’s largest markets, America, and contribute to the development of Turkiye’s exports.

Meanwhile, Paterson Mayor Sayegh, who proudly represented what he considers the “Capital of Turkiye in the USA,” Paterson, amused the participants with his remarks, “For the best döner kebab, tantuni, or kazandibi, come to Paterson.” He announced that a street named “Turkiye” will soon be opened in Paterson.
