South African cartoonist Zapiro (full name Jonathan Shapiro) has been a thorn in the side of politicians and demagogues for decades.
From his home in Cape Town, he talks to Imran Garda about his creative process and artistic influences, shaped during his early years in Apartheid South Africa.
His most controversial cartoons have invariably led him to international acclaim but also high-profile battles, most notably when former President Jacob Zuma took him to court.
His career began when he was just four years old after his mother told him to draw the monsters of his nightmares. He tells us why he believes there are still many monsters left to fight.
