
Houston, TX – The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series, held annually by Turkish Airlines (THY), took place with great enthusiasm at the Golf Club of Houston. Cenk Çelik, the Media Director of Alaturka Houston, attended the event on behalf of the Alaturka team, graciously invited by THY’s Houston Director, Ziya Öztürk. Despite the storm and heavy rain the day before, about 80 amateur golfers competed on a meticulously prepared course, offering participants a memorable experience.
Tournament Details
The special event started early in the morning at the Golf Club of Houston, where players competed on perfectly manicured lawns adorned with Turkish Airlines flags. The highly anticipated tournament was conducted in a Stableford format, allowing the winner to represent their country in the grand finale in Turkey this December.
Atmosphere and Organization
Despite the previous day’s storm, the golf course was in excellent condition, with every detail finely tuned to create an ideal environment for the athletes. Participants not only engaged in competition but also enjoyed a beautiful spring morning in Houston. Mariam Attaie and Ken Bhappu from the THY team discussed with the Alaturka cameras the free city tours and lodging options in Istanbul for transit passengers. Guided by Mariam Attaie, the Alaturka team toured the course, chatting with competitors and capturing the cheerful atmosphere of the tournament.
Tournament Rules and Prizes
All players competed under the set rules with a maximum handicap of 24.0. The victorious golfer won a round-trip business class ticket to Turkey and a five-night stay at the Gloria Serenity Hotel, securing a spot in the grand finale. Special prizes were also awarded for the Nearest to the Pin competition for both men and women.
Tournament Winners
Walker Toomes emerged as the champion of Houston with 45 points, while Cyndi Langston finished second, and Muzaffer Khan third. Nasir Khan won the Men’s Nearest to the Pin, and Cyndi Langston won for the women. Walker Toomes also achieved the lowest gross score, earning his place in the grand finale in Turkey.
