British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and outgoing European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will meet on Monday in Luxembourg, an EU official said Friday.
“Juncker will have a working lunch with Boris Johnson on Monday, 16 September, in Luxembourg,” Mina Andreeva, Juncker’s chief spokeswoman, said on Twitter.
This would be their first face-to-face meeting since Johnson became premier in July, and follows several domestic political setbacks for Johnson’s vision of an Oct. 31 Brexit, deal or no deal.
The U.K. is set to leave the bloc at the end of October after two extensions granted by the EU.
Johnson has insisted that the country will leave with or without a deal on Oct. 31, one day before Juncker is due to be succeeded by Ursula von der Leyen, the commission’s next president.
