Turkish stocks start Tuesday down

ANKARA

Turkey’s benchmark stock index started Tuesday down 0.7%, or 723.62 points, to open at 102,269.58 points.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index fell by 0.45% to close the day at 102,993.20 points with a daily trading volume of 11.87 billion Turkish liras ($2.06 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.8200 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday, compared to 5.7510 at Monday’s close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.3960, versus 6.3240, and one British pound traded for 7.1750 Turkish liras, up from 7.1000.

One barrel of Brent oil was sold for $58.73 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Tuesday.
