Algeria hosts Mediterranean News Agencies meeting

ANKARA

The 28th general assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) was held in Algeria on Wednesday.

The Algeria’s APS news agency took over the AMAN term presidency from the Athens-Macedonia News Agency (ANA-MPA) and agreed that the 29th AMAN general assembly will be held in Croatia next year.

Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) also joined the general assembly as an observer.

AMAN also held a conference attended by academics and representatives of news agencies.

In the conference — titled News Agencies vs Today’s Challenges: An Opportunity to Grow into Global Media — participants discussed opportunities and challenges of social media and digitalization of news agencies.

Anadolu Agency’s photojournalist Mustafa Hassona received photo of the year award from AMAN.

Hassona’s photo of a bare-chested Palestinian protester holding the Palestine flag and in the other a slingshot was awarded by the alliance the photo of the year.

AMAN, of which Anadolu Agency is one of the founding members, was established in Tunisia on Nov. 21, 1991 to provide mutual cooperation and information sharing among Mediterranean news agencies.
