Football: Muriqi proving his worth to Fenerbahce

ANKARA

Though still early in the season, Turkish football club Fenerbahce forward Vedat Muriqi has proved his worth to the team with four goals in the Turkish Super Lig.

While the Yellow Canaries have four wins, two draws, and two losses in the league so far, Vedat Muriqi — who transferred from Caykur Rizespor in July — scored four goals in Fenerbahce’s four victories.

The Kosovar forward scored against Gaziantep FK, Istanbul Basaksehir, MKE Ankaragucu, and Yukatel Denizlispor.

Fenerbahce had three forwards in the 2018-2019 season — Islam Slimani, Roberto Soldado and Michael Frey — but they didn’t live up to expectations.

Compared to them, Muriqi has shown an outstanding performance in the Turkish Super Lig.

Algerian forward Slimani scored one goal and Swiss forward Frey produced three goals during the last season of the league.

In addition, during the season, Spanish forward Soldado produced six goals for the team.

Fenerbahce also lost points, drawing against Trabzonspor 1-1 and losing to Aytemiz Alanyaspor 3-1. In these matches, Garry Rodrigues and Tolga Cigerci scored one goal each.

In two matches the Yellow Canaries emerged goalless — a 0-0 draw against Galatasaray away and a 1-0 defeat to Antalyaspor.
