River Plate eliminated archrivals Boca Juniors in a Copa Libertadores semifinal match late Tuesday to reach the final.
Despite falling to Boca 0-1 in the second leg match of the ‘Superclasico’ at La Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires, River Plate managed to get the job done, eliminating their opponent 2-1 on aggregate.
River Plate defeated Boca Juniors 2-0 in the first leg match at home on Oct. 2, gaining an advantage before Tuesday evening’s second leg showing.
The only goal came from Jan Hurtado in the 80th minute for Boca Juniors.
Flamengo will take on Gremio in the other semifinal match Wednesday evening.
Their first leg match ended 1-1 at Gremio’s stadium.
