Flamengo to face River Plate in Libertadores final

ANKARA

Defending champions River Plate and Brazilian giants Flamengo will clash in the final of Copa Libertadores, most prestigious title in South American football.

Argentinian club River Plate eliminated archrivals Boca Juniors 2-1 on aggregate in the semifinal to reach the final.

Flamengo had an easy past in the semifinal, beating another Brazilian club Gremio 6-1 on aggregate.

River Plate lifted Copa Liberdatores four times in the past, while Flamengo advanced to the final for the first time since 1981.

River Plate is the latest holder of the title after they beat their Argentine rivals Boca Juniors 5-3 on aggregate in 2018.

The second leg of the last year’s final in South America was relocated to Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium due to security concerns.

The match was postponed and transferred from Buenos Aires to Madrid after River Plate fans attacked Boca Juniors’ club bus ahead of the game.

The final of 2019 Copa Libertadores will be played as a single match that will take place in Chile’s Estadio Santiago on Nov. 23.
