Turkey’s stocks down at Wednesday opening

ANKARA

Turkey’s benchmark stock index went down by 0.92%, or 917.44 points, to start Wednesday at 98,920.86 points.

The market was closed midday on Monday and remained closed on Tuesday as Turkey marked National Republic Day on Oct. 29.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index fell by 0.38% to close the day at 99,838.30 points.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.7650 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared to 5.7170 at Monday’s close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.4090, versus 6.3430, and one British pound traded for 7.4360 Turkish liras, while it stood at 7.3630 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $60.97 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
