Austria’s embassy in Ankara marks national day

ANKARA

Ambassador to Turkey Johannes Wimmer on Tuesday hosted a reception to mark the anniversary of Austria’s National Day.

“By celebrating the Austrian National Day, we commemorate the complete reestablishment of Austria’s sovereignty and independence in October 1955,” Wimmer said.

Wimmer presented his letter of credence to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Oct. 24.

Wimmer said Turkey is a “truly fascinating and beautiful” place.

“While serving Austria in Turkey, I see it as a main responsibility to contribute to building on Austria’s and Turkey’s commonalities. They are solidly founded in a relationship that has strong historical roots.

“They are also reflected in our excellent bilateral cooperation at various levels and in our very vibrant economic exchange,” he added.

The reception was attended by Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Director General Ozgur Altan and many representatives of diplomatic missions.
