Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul jumps 2.4% at close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index jumped by 2.37% at the daily close, reaching 103.544,35 points on Thursday.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index started the day at 101,812.27 points. As of close, it earned 2,400.61 points from Wednesday’s close of 101,143.742 points.

During Thursday’s trading, the index’s lowest level was 101,812.27 points and the highest was 103,544.40 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 701.7 billion Turkish liras ($122 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 9.54 billion Turkish liras ($1.66 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 80 stocks on the index rose, 15 were down, and five were flat compared to Wednesday.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemical company Petkim, and Garanti.

Turkish Airlines was the best performer on Thursday, with its shares up 6.03%, while stocks of energy company Odas dropped most, down 11.43%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,484.40 by market close, down from $1,485.65 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $62.20 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Thursday.
