Magnitude 6.1 quake jolts Thai-Laotian border

KUALA LUMPUR

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the border area between northern Thailand and northwestern Laos early Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake occurred about 10 kilometers (6 miles) below the surface with its epicenter 44 kilometers (27.3 miles) east-southeast of Sainyabuli province in northwest Laos.

No casualties or damage have been reported.

The quake was also felt in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok.
